What can I do for you?
Depending on where you are in your writing process, you will need different levels of service. I am happy to help with any one of my offered services or a combination of them. Each project is entirely unique and I’m here to help you decide what needs to be done and how to move forward.
Below you’ll find a description for each service that I provide. If you are having trouble deciding what is the right path for your project, feel free to email me a sample of your writing so that I can do a complimentary evaluation for you or give me a description of what you would like to accomplish so that I can guide you to the best option for you.
Each project will require different levels of editing and/or writing and rates will vary based on these needs. Contact me for a quote on your project!
Developmental Editing
- I will complete a full analysis of your manuscript/short story with suggestions for how to improve narrative elements
- After completion of author edits based on the initial analysis, I will do a second read through with a secondary analysis of changes
- At both stages, i will give in-document comments to point out locations where writing is weak/strong and highlight elements that are discussed in the analysis
Copy Editing and Proofreading
- Depending on how far you are in your story, I will perform a light, medium, or heavy copy edit to help tighten sentences, correct grammar issues, and deal with any technical issues
- If your story is complete and formatted, I will proofread to ensure there are no typos, formatting problems, or glaring grammar issues that made it through the copy editing stage
Copy Writing
- If you have an idea that needs to be written but you can’t get the words onto the page, I will work with you to get the copy written
- I am happy to adjust my tone and reading level depending on what type of copy you need
- Don’t worry if you aren’t looking for fantasy content, we can discuss any and all projects and I will give my honest opinion about whether or not I am the best writer for the job

“When I wrote my novel, Pieces in Time, in May of 2020, I asked Julie to edit what was an extremely rough first draft. Having written nonfiction for most of my career, my novel was my first attempt at fiction. As the words flowed, I rushed through the story, leaving out hundreds of commas, improperly punctuating my dialogue, and getting lost in my verb tense, among numerous other mistakes. Julie was gracious and fixed all of these mistakes, and then made several suggestions that helped me improve the story. She never altered my voice within the story but maintained the integrity of my work in all she did.
