About the Kling(dom).

Hi, there! My name is Julie Kling and I’m a developmental editor with a love for finding the best path for any story. While I thrive in big picture edits and improving narrative elements, I have an eye for detail and a love for creating the perfect sentence. For this reason, I both enjoy and have refined my skills in copyediting, line editing, substantive editing, and proofreading.

My background is an amalgamation of editing, creative writing, anthropology, math, and restaurant management. It has taken me a while to find the right fit, but this has given me the opportunity to pick up a lot of invaluable skills along the way. I have fantastic task management, communication, and customer service skills, and I can do mental math and calculate rates for work with ease. Furthermore, I have had the opportunity to explore what truly makes me tick, and I have spent time learning from and about people from all walks of life.

I have a passion for sci-fi and fantasy and am always thrilled to be paid to read the genres I love, but I am enthusiastic about all kinds of projects and am happiest when I have a constant flow of new information. My past projects include developmental editing a Christian novel, line and developmental editing non-fiction work on energy healing and spiritual cannabis use, and copyediting short essays written for ESL students.

The idea for The Editing Klingdom came to me in part from my uncle-in-law who sent me a “Welcome to the Klingdom” text when I got engaged to my husband, part from my love of fantasy (in which many a kingdom occurs), and part from my love of wordplay.

The purpose of this venture is to help take fantasy stories from good to great while focusing on sensitivity and diversity. If anything I’m saying here speaks to you, it’s time to contact me about working on your latest project!
